The bed occupancy rate at the city's COVID-19 referral hospitals has considerably risen, from less than 20 percent prior to the recent Eid al-Fitr holiday season to 65 percent this week, Bogor Mayor Bima Arya stated here on Tuesday.
Arya, concurrently head of the city's COVID-19 task force, emphasized that if the condition deteriorated, all related authorities were ordered to step up the application of 3T measures.
The COVID-19 task force personnel are carefully observing the city's current COVID-19 situation and are constantly coordinating with their counterparts from related government agencies, he remarked.
As of June 12, 2021, Bogor had 737 beds for COVID-19 patients at 21 referral hospitals, and 100 other beds at the COVID-19 isolation center in Ciawi neighborhood.
Bogor is administratively part of West Java Province, but it is one of Jakarta's satellite cities. Owing to their geographical proximity, several Bogor residents commute to and from Jakarta for work.
Over the course of these past few days, the Jakarta provincial government had recorded a significant increase in COVID-19 cases.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan had earlier attributed the recent spike in coronavirus infections in the capital city to the Eid al-Fitr holidays.
He noted that the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 17,400 on June 11, 2021, from 11,500 on June 6, 2021, thereby indicating a 50-percent increase in infections.
The COVID-19 positivity rate also rose to 17 percent on Sunday, from nine percent a week earlier.
The number of specimens tested at laboratories also rose eight folds, as against the WHO-prescribed four-fold increase, he noted.
As a precautionary measure against deteriorating conditions, the Jakarta provincial government has prepared 2,500 beds at the Nagrak low-cost apartments in Cilincing neighborhood of North Jakarta for COVID-19 patients.
The Nagrak apartments will only be used if the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran emergency hospital continues to receive new COVID-19 patients, Baswedan stated early this week.
Currently, the Jakarta provincial administration is prioritizing the Wisma Atlet emergency hospital for receiving COVID-19 patients, but Baswedan has urged Jakartans to not undermine the recent increase in COVID-19 cases.
